Co-design and Workshop
I was lead designer on this project, while working at Noble Studio.

Southampton university co-wrote a set of guidelines and recommendations to present to UK parliament, around a trauma informed process of working with asylum seeking young people. I designed and illustrated a report which summarised their findings.

Through a process of collaboration, we co-designed this report with the two professors and young people with lived experience. I delivered a workshop with Amanda Wayne (Noble Studio) to ideate on illustration content and style for the report. It was important the tone of the illustrations and design reflected the traumatic and harrowing experiences of the young asylum seekers, while also incorporating elements of hopefulness and change. We also consulted young asylum seekers during the process, to get their thoughts on illustration approach, through a toolkit we made.

The project has been well received and reached a wide audience, including being presented to the Home Office. RE:ACTION magazine by University of Southampton has also mentioned the project in their interdisciplinary research issue.

“At the start of the process we didn’t know what we were looking for, but they helped us to capture our ideas, encourage creativity and narrow down design decisions. Their workshops and toolkits helped us to speak the same language in terms of design, and they were very open to our feedback given the brief was abstract and challenging.”
