Leveraging Passions for Design Inspiration
Integrating personal passions into projects can lead to inspired and creative designs. My deep connection with water and nature has significantly influenced my design approach, resulting in several projects that blend creativity with purpose.Swim Bristol Harbour Campaign T-Shirt:
A notable project was designing a campaign t-shirt for Swim Bristol Harbour, a movement advocating for safe and legal swimming access in the harbour. This initiative not only supported a vital community cause but also allowed me to apply my design skills to a project that resonated with both personal passion and public interest.
Hele Bay Merbabes Beach Throws
Another project involved creating and screen printing beach throws inspired by the experiences of the Hele Bay Merbabes, a group of sea swimmers in North Devon. Through ethnographic research and daily voice notes from the Merbabes, I captured the essence of their sea swimming experiences. Their stories of connection, resilience, and the profound impact of the sea on their lives were woven into the designs, bringing their journey to life on fabric.
Ocean Studies Zine Additionally, I compiled a zine titled "Ocean Studies," where I gathered references, sketches, mark-making, and photographs of ocean-inspired environments. This collection serves as a creative reference library, sparking inspiration and providing assets for future projects, including a poetry book titled "Beach Combing for Heart and Wild," which features illustrations that echo the themes of the sea and its profound influence on our well-being.
These projects demonstrate how aligning personal interests with professional endeavors can lead to meaningful and impactful design work. By drawing inspiration from passions, designers can create solutions that are both innovative and personally fulfilling.
